Any kind of hot styling tool can be damaging to your hair. Ceramic straighteners are just less damaging. As long as you deep condition once a week, get regular trims, and use a protective spray/serum on your hair before using the straightener, you should be fine.
any time you add unnecessary heat and stuff to your hair it can ruin it, but you can do lots of things to try and protect your hair. there are lots of styling products specially made to work with heat.
just to be on the safe side make sure you use a heat protector. although its ceramic, it can still make your hair funny and split with heat...
