When shopping for a straight iron, make sure that the whole thing is ceramic even under the plates. Most straight irons will say that they are ceramic but only the plates are. This is a trap! Make sure the straight iron does not contain any METAL what so ever! This is what damages your hair.
If you want a good one that will last you a long time, I would suggest the Croc. It's kinda pricey...but Definately worth it...

The only thing I WOULD NOT suggest is the Chi.. It is WHAYYYY over rated.... Like I've found that the ironing plates fall out very easily and when straightening your hair, it tends to get caught up in between the plate and the handles, and when closing it, you hair gets caught and pulls... kinda gets annoying and painful after a while.... i was also in search of a good hair iron, so i have done a lot of research on this.From all the information, what i learned is that SEDU CERAMIC TOURMALINE IRONS are the best.

Though its a little pricey [average price-130$ ],its worth the money as it is a one time investment.

Its a light weight hair iron with ceramic plates to protect ur hair from heat damage %26amp; has got different temperature settings .

u can select either 1 inch or 1.5 inch plate according to ur hair length.

U can buy it at folicia.com or look up ebay for deals.

Be sure to apply a good thermal protectant before u proceed with straightening.

CHI Ceramic Flat Iron are awesome. I've had mine for four years now and it still works. It's not as damaging as other straighteners and my hair still looks pretty healthy. I know a bunch of people who use this straightener brand as well and they all love it. It's around $100 though.
