Hmmmm...Chemical straightners are very hard on your hair AND scalp, and you will need to get a touch up when the roots get too long--if you don't, the hair will break off at the point of where curly meets straight.
At the same time, blow drying your hair then ironing it afterwards is a lot of work. A way to get around the heat abuse would be to use a heat protectant on your hair and to deep condition your hair fairly often, if you straighten it often.
What I can say is BE CAREFUL. If you make the choice to permanently straighten your hair, you cannot reverse the process unless you chop off your hair and start over. It's a huge commitment and it kinda detracts from giving you versatility. I personally got rid of having relaxed hair because I couldn't be versatile enough with just straight hair...and it wasn't as healthy...and relaxers can and will burn your scalp.
I'm not saying that chemically straightened hair isn't healthy, but it's not as strong as un-chemically straighted hair.
Just be careful. We women love our hair way too much to let something take it away from us, lol.Hair Iron vs. Chemical Straightening?
no chemicals are not better than using a flat iron alot. all the heat will just mess up your ends and getting a relaxer might irritate your scalp. just use a heat protectant and let your hair airdry then straighten it. eliminate the blow dryer
If you do it chemically, it lasts a lot longer, but it can severely damage your hair, while if you use a flat iron, it only stays straight until you get it wet, but it's very safe and it works pretty much the same.
Chemicals destroy the ends of your hair (once) and weaken the rest of the follicle.
Blow drying and ironing the hair weakens the follicle little by little, mounting the damage to your ends.
To me, it's the same either way: one is more expensive yet a one time deal, the other is cheap but a frequent process.
If you prefer the straight look and absolutely hate curls then chemical straightening is for you. If your hair has just curly locks and is medium to soft in texture you can get a gentler solution, It's called a THIOGLYCOLATE or THIO for short solution but it needs to be in a gel solution. If your hair is coarse to very course than you will need a much stronger solution, SODIUM HYDROXIDE. If you chose one of these you will have to use professional conditioning treatments on your hair regularly. You can purchase these at salons or beauty schools. In order to keep your hair strong and from breaking. Also you'll have to get touch ups around every 6 weeks.
While chemically straightning your hair is easier and lasts longer, it will damage you hair. Flat ironing is safer so I suggest that.
Never use chemical straighteners they kill your hair.. Its better to just use a straightening iron and do it daily.. Even though it takes time it looks better in the long run...
