First of all, make sure you purchase one that has ceramic plates. Ceramic gets a lot hotter than metal while doing less damage to your hair. If your hair is really curly, get one that has a comb or teeth on one end to help pull it more.

Best way to do this is to start with clean, conditioned, damp hair. Apply some sort of smoothing cream or spray. (Tres Somme makes one in a little black tube that is called anti-frizz secret, it is exactly the same as one of the higher end pricey products) Dry using a blow drier and large round brush. Dry in sections, from bottom to top.

Once hair is thoroughly dry, gather it into a clip at the top of your head, leaving the bottom quarter down. Take a small section, run a brush through it, then while still holding it, clamp the straigtener down at the roots, comb side out-away from your scalp. Slowly slide the straightener down the section, holding for a second at the roots. Continue til your hair is straight. With a good ceramic straightener, it takes no time, even if you have a lot of hair. What is the best way to use the hair iron machine?
I either let my hair naturally dry or blow dry it. Then i pull it up halfway as if i were putting my hair half up and half down. I comb small sections ( not too small about 2-2.5 inches) start from the top and smooth it downward. Continue all around the head. I do the back twice getting closer to the scalp. Then I let some more hair down and do it again. with that hair. until my whole head is fully straight! Good luck! If your hair is thinner (mine is really thick.) You might not need to let down layer after layer..
Make sure your using a good conditioner on your hair if your hair and if your hair is processed use caution and be gentle, I recommend using a vent brush to separate your hair and a big round brush(with soft bristles) too blow dry it under first then straighten your hair in 1/4 of an inch. sections starting at the roots and gentle down, try to do it in the directing your hair naturally goes this will help it fall naturally.
