under $100, what hair iron is there that works well, heats up well, and lasts a long time?
what kinds of things should i be looking out for on irons to keep my hair healthy, for example, what type of plates/other things shoud it contain

Well...they're all damanging. Use a heat protectant, because the only irons that will do minimal damage are CHIs which depending on where you get it are usually over 100.
